Keeping Helio Gracie's Philosophy alive with Pedro Sauer!

When you go to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school nowadays, You will notice they focus more on the competition side of Jiu Jitsu instead of self defense. Helio Grace didn't invent Jiu Jitsu but he modified it so that a smaller individual could defend himself against a larger person as self defense, which is now known as Gracie Jiu Jitsu. BJJ has grown into a great sport however, everyone has their own reason to study the art and not everyone is doing it to be a world class athlete. I heard Rener Gracie once say, "My grandfather's philosophy for Jiu Jitsu was to survive and keep from being defeated, while capitalizing on your opponent's mistake". In competition, you only have 4-10 minutes to fight so everyone's attacking. In the streets, it may last longer and if your attacks don't end the fight quickly, you can risk getting tired and being in a worse situation. Also in competition, a lot of people like to "Pull Guard" but Pulling Guard in the streets might be a very very bad chose.

I love both sides of Jiu Jitsu that's why I train under Professor Pedro Sauer. He keeps everything like Helio taught it. When I train with my BJJ Coach Cesar and Professor Sauer, we focus on both sides and I think that's how it should be.  I noticed now, some competitions like the Metamoris Pro Oct. 14th, is 20 minutes/ submission only. That means no points and if no one taps then it's a draw. That forces athletes to be calmer and show more technique. That's how you would be in a real fight, not going crazy, getting tired and getting stomped out.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu also known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great self defense and sport and I look forward to seeing it grow even more.

Professor Pedro Sauer also has a great video collection you can get now! Just Click Here! It's full of videos teaching you the Theory, Passes, Sweeps, Escapes and more. Professor Sauer is a 8th Degree Red and Black Belt so he has so much to teach and was voted the best instructor in the world! I'm Competing in the Copa Nova Championships Oct. 20th!

I will be competing in my next tournament October 20, 2012 at the Copa Nova Championships in Ashburn, Va. I'm feeling real good about it. Unlike the Pan Ams No Gi Championships last month, I will be fighting in the Gi divisions and we will have even more people reppin Team Pedro Sauer coming from different schools. I've been drilling, refining my techniques and fixing the mistakes I made at my last fight. I'm looking forward to this tourney and it might be my last fight before I go to Korea for 2yrs. Ofcourse I'll be competing in Korea, but I would love to leave the States on a good note.

The IBJJF Pro League 2012 with CASH Prizes!

The International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation just announced another great event for the sport of Jiu Jitsu. December 8, 2012, they will be holding the IBJJF Pro League which will have up to $20,000 in cash prizes. The best of the best will be competing and the winner of each division will receive $5,000. Alot of BJJ athletes end up moving on to MMA for the purses, so I wonder if this event, as while as the Metamoris Pro Oct. 14th is moving us in the direction of Jiu Jitsu athletes getting paid for their hard training. There will be a certain criteria to see which top athletes will be competing. The find out more info about the IBJJF Pro League, check out the IBJJF site here: http://www.ibjjf.org/ibjjproleague2012home.htm
